Zimmerman Trail

Description:
The Zimmerman Trail connects the Poudre Canyon on the north with the Flowers Trail on the south. There is currently no access from Poudre Canyon on the north. The trailhead for this trail is at the end of the Crown Point Road. Take the trail southeast for two miles, climbing about 500 feet through dense Englemann spruce stands to the alpine tundra near the headwaters of the West Fork of Sheep Creek. It's another half mile to the Flowers Trail on the ridge to the south. This portion of the trail is of moderate difficulty. Traveling north on the trail from the trailhead leads down to Sheep Creek Meadow at about 9,500 feet (about 1,100 foot drop in elevation). The first 1.5 miles of this section is fairly level. The last .5 miles is very steep. North of the meadow the trail crosses the old dam of Sheep Creek Reservoir and climbs up out of the Sheep Creek drainage to its intersection with the Sheep Creek Cutoff Trail. From here it rises somewhat and then descends into Poudre Canyon, a drop of about 2,200 feet. This trail is located in the Comanche Peak Wilderness where camping is not permitted within 200 feet of any lake, stream, or trail.
