Red Mountain Trail

Description:
The Red Mountain Trail begins from the Lulu City Trail at an elevation of 9,032 feet and climbs to the Grand Ditch Trail at 10,208 feet in about 3.2 miles. Sixty percent of the trail is easy to hike with 40% being of moderate difficulty. The trail leaves the Lulu City Trail at about the .4 mile mark and crosses the Colorado River via a wooden bridge. It enters a spruce forest and begins a moderate climb up the west ridge of the Kawuneeche Valley. The trail gets rocky as it crosses a boulder field and then crosses Opposition Creek over a foot bridge. You get some good views of the valley where the trees are less dense. Wild raspberries line the more open sections of the trail. As the trail tops the ridge, it turns northwest. The trail passes the edge of a deep drainage, giving you a great view of Trail Ridge Road and the valley below. After making a short descent, it crosses Opposition Creek again an then climbs to the Grand Ditch Trail. The last 100 yards of the trail is quite steep.
