Onahu - Tonahutu Connector Trail

Description:
      The Onahu-Tonahutu Connector Trail begins from Onahu Bridge at an elevation of 9,677 feet and descends to the Tonahutu Creek Trail at 9,488 feet in 1.3 miles. The trail leaves Onahu Bridge and climbs the ridge to the east, passing the trail to Long Meadows. It turns south and makes a long steady climb through spruce forest. It levels out after about .3 miles and winds its way through the forest before beginning to descend. The trail descends for about .8 miles, steep in spots, to the Tonahutu Creek Trail and Big Meadows. The dense forest does not allow much in the way of views from this trail.

Directions:
     The nearest access to this trail is via the Onahu CreekTrailhead. This trailhead is located on the east side of Trail Ridge Road about 3.6 miles north of the Grand Lake Entrance. Take Trail Ridge Road for about 37.1 miles to the trailhead from the Beaver Meadows Entrance. Hike 2.9 miles to the north end of the trail.

     This trail can also be reached via the Green Mountain Trailhead. It is located on the east side of the road about three miles north of the Grand Lake Entrance. Take Trail Ridge Road for about 37.7 miles to the trailhead from the Beaver Meadows Entrance. The parking area is “L” shaped with room for 35 vehicles. There is ample room for horse trailers along the side next to the road. Restroom facilities are available at the trailhead.
