Onahu Creek Trail

Description:
The Onahu Creek Trail begins from the Onahu Trailhead at an elevation of 8,831 feet and climbs to Onahu Bridge at 9,677 feet in 2.9 miles. Most of the trail is easy to hike with about 30% being of moderate difficulty. From the trailhead, the trail makes a level path through a meadow and soon enters a lodgepole pine and aspen forest. It then turns east and makes a moderate climb. It passes through a stand of "dog hair" lodgepole pine and then begins a relatively steep climb up a creek drainage. Soon you'll hear the roar of Onahu Creek as the trail pulls along side it. It crosses the creek twice as it makes a long climb up the ridge. Just beyond the Onahu Creek campsites, the trail travels to the north of a large meadow. There is good access here for fishing. Traveling through a park-like forest, the trail makes a gentle climb to Onahu Bridge. Here it connects with the Long Meadows and Onahu-Tonahutu Connector trails.
