Long Meadows Trail

Description:
The Long Meadows Trail provides access to the south and north ends of Long Meadows. There is no trail connecting the south end with the north end. Cross-country travel is required here. The south end of the trail begins from the Onahu Creek Trail at an elevation of 9,677 feet. It makes a steep climb of almost 600 feet in about .9 miles through spruce and lodgepole pine to the south end of the meadow. The meadow is about 1.5 miles long. Stick to the east edge of the meadow to get to the north end.

The north end of the trail begins from the Timber Lake Trail at an elevation of 10,470 feet. It climbs to 10,518 feet in about 1.2 miles. This end of the trail is less strenuous than the south end. It makes a moderate climb up the ridge for about .4 miles. There are a few deadfalls across this section as it is not maintained. The trail soon levels off and it is an easy climb through spruce forest to the meadow. Horses are not permitted on the Long Meadows Trail. Long Meadows is a very large meadow containing a pond near the north end. Look for moose in this area.
