Jim's Grove Trail

Description:
The Jim's Grove Trail begins from the East Longs Peak Trail at an elevation of 10,977 feet and climbs 1000 feet to the west where it intersects the East Longs Peak Trail again. The trail crosses Alpine Brook over a foot bridge and makes a rocky climb across the tundra to the northwest and west. It travels through a forest of small spruce trees known as Jim's Grove. There are a lot of restoration areas along this trail. Please keep off of these areas. The trail makes a few switchbacks as it climbs up a ridge. Near the west end of the trail, it makes a strenuous climb over a series of water bar steps (about .3 miles). It intersects the East Longs Peak Trail about .2 miles below Granite Pass. There is no sign at this end of the trail.

Directions:
The Jim's Grove Trail begins from the East Longs Peak Trail. The East Longs Peak Trail begins from the Longs Peak Trailhead. Take Highway 7 south from Estes Park for about 8.8 miles to the Longs Peak Area turnoff. Turn right and travel about a mile to the trailhead. The trailhead is near the ranger station and has space for about 60 to 70 vehicles. There is additional parking along the entrance road. This is a very popular area and fills quickly during the summer. Horses are permitted but there is very little room for horse trailers. Your best bet is along the right side of the road coming from the Longs Peak Campground. Hike 2.57 miles to the Jims Grove Trail.
