Rainbow Lakes
Description:
The
Rainbow Lakes are a series of lakes and ponds located in the southeast portion
of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The lakes range in size from 1 to 2.9 acres.
Most of the lakes are shallow with the deepest being 15 feet. The lakes are
surrounded by spruce forest with bands of grass and willows next to the shore.
Fishing access is relatively easy but can be wet.

Directions:
The
Rainbow Lakes can be reached via the Rainbow Lakes Trail. This trail begins
from the trailhead west of the Rainbow Lakes Campground and travels .9 miles
to the last lake. Take Highway 72 north from Nederland 6.5 miles to Forest
Road 298. The trailhead is about six miles from the start of Forest Road 298.
