| Rocky Mountain Trails A computer CD offering a complete guide to trails in Rocky Mountain National Park By John E. Heasley Detailed descriptions of 111 trails Topographic maps Over 800 photographs Directions to trailheads Printable directions and trail maps Bonus screen saver with 40 images of Rocky Mountain National Park Music option included with the screen saver $19.95 Publisher: Resource Analysis Systems 2917 Eagle Drive Ft. Collins, CO 80526 www.resourceanalysis.com Picking a trail to hike from the 111 trails in Rocky Mountain National Park just got easier - much easier. The CD "Rocky Mountain Trails" guides you through the selection process. You can search by area, destination or trailhead. I find the option to search by area very handy. First, you select a section of the park by dragging the cursor across the area buttons. The selected area is accented when you stop on the name. A simple click reveals the trail names in that section. Drag the cursor over the trail names and the trails are highlighted on the map. Clicking on the trail name brings up trail information that includes topographical maps, altitude profiles with degree of difficulty, trail length in miles and detailed directions. This information combined with over 800 photographs conveys in depth what each trail and trail system has to offer. If this amount of detailed data were in book form, it could easily fill 1,000 pages. Not only is it easy to find data on screen, it takes only a click to print out directions and topo maps. "Rocky Mountain Trails" isn't limited to just the popular trails, it has detailed information about parts of the park where even frequent visitors seldom venture. I had no idea how vast the trail system is that laces Rocky Mountain National Park. John Heasley incorporates mapping information and statistical data, but what gives this CD a personal touch is his feet-to-the-ground research. Heasley walked or rode horseback on all 350 miles of trail covered by this CD. It would be safe to say that Heasley is one of few people, and may be the only one, to have been on all the trails in the park. The screensaver incorporated with this CD as a bonus is itself worth the purchase price. The 40 screensaver photographs of Rocky Mountain National Park will make your monitor sparkle. The images can be set to run in either sequential order or random order. You can also adjust the amount of time each image is displayed. A music option is included as well. You can load the screensaver without the music, but I suggest you load the original score. It was written expressly for the screensaver. You can always mute the music if you don't want to listen to it. To turn the screensaver on without waiting for the keyboard be idle for a fixed amount of time, you can establish a desktop shortcut. It's a great feature for those times when your mind needs a photographic and/or musical escape. This is a recommended read/view/listen CD for everyone interested in hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. John Messineo PO Box 1636 Ft. Collins, CO 80522 970-482-9349 jmphoto@juno.com |
