The Pawnee Campground is located within the Brainard Lake Recreation Area at an elevation of 10,350 feet. Most sites are well wooded with a few being in open areas. There are 55 sites in the campground. All sites are suitable for RV camping. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring or grate. The maximum vehicle length that can be accommodated is 45 feet.
     The roads through the campground are dirt/gravel. There are eight water hydrants and six restrooms. None of the restrooms will accommodate disabled persons. There is a separate picnic area near Brainard lake. Reservations are accepted and can be made 5 - 240 days in advance. Only even numbered sites can be reserved. There is a length of stay limit of 14 days for reserved sights and 5 days for non-reserved sights. The season for this campground normally runs from July through October, depending on the weather. Snow on the ground is common early and late in the season. Check with the Forest Service for the current fees. The day use fee for the Brainard Lake Recreation Area is waved for those camping at Pawnee Campground.

Activities:
FISHING: Fishing is available for trout in Brainard, Mitchell, Blue, Red Rock and Long lakes.

HIKING: Hiking is available on numerous nearby trails. These include: Mitchell Creek, Pawnee Pass, Jean Luning, South St Vrain, Waldrop North, CMC South, and Sourdough trails. Overnight trips into the Indian Peaks Wilderness require a camping permit.

BICYCLING: The Sourdough Trail is popular for mountain biking and can be accessed from the Red Rock trailhead located about two miles to the east on Forest Road 112.

Directions:
     Take Highway 72 north from Nederland approximately eight miles to Ward. Turn west on Forest Road 112 and travel about five miles to the Brainard Lake Recreation Area and the campground. From Estes Park travel south on Highway 7 for approximately 18 miles to Highway 72. Go south on 72 to Ward then west on Forest Road 112 to the campground.
